LaSalle Station Continues Support for Labor of Love; Event Rescheduled for April 2021

MARSEILLES, Ill. —  LaSalle Station continued its long history of championing the United Way of Eastern LaSalle County’s Labor of Love despite the event being canceled in the fall.

For more than a decade, the station and its employees have donated time and money to support home repairs for those in need at the annual Labor of Love workday. While COVID-19 prevented the workday from occurring in the fall, LaSalle Station again donated $15,000 to support the rescheduled event in April.

“The Labor of Love volunteer workday is near and dear to our hearts,” said John Washko, Site Vice President of LaSalle Station. “Although we couldn’t physically work this year due to COVID restrictions, we were still honored to issue our station donation to help meet the most urgent demands in the community. Our employees are excited to participate in the workday this spring and make a difference for those in need.”

Labor of Love is a one-day home improvement blitz with 300 volunteers, including more than 100 from LaSalle Station, using donated materials to paint, clean and repair the homes of elderly, disabled and low-income homeowners. Assistance is available to homeowners who reside in Dayton, Grand Ridge, Harding, Leland, Marseilles, Naplate, Ottawa, Seneca, Serena, Sheridan and Wedron.

The event has been rescheduled for April 24. Applications are being accepted through February by the United Way of Eastern LaSalle County.

“LaSalle Station continues to make a positive impact in our local communities through this long-standing event,” said Shelli Ocepek, executive director, United Way of Eastern LaSalle County. “Year after year, the station’s generosity and the exemplary volunteer efforts of employees inspire hope and provide opportunities for a better life for many struggling individuals and families in our area.”

This year alone, LaSalle Station employees logged 2,327 hours of volunteerism and donated $149,000 to a wide range of local organizations, including charitable contributions to help LaSalle and Grundy Counties improve environmental, educational and recreational initiatives within local communities.

LaSalle County Generating Station is located approximately 75 miles southwest of Chicago. With both units at full power, the site produces more than 2,200 megawatts net, which is enough electricity for 2.2 million homes.
