Solar photovoltaic cells (PV cells) are the equipment that start the process of generating solar power. They're typically placed on rooftops or the ground for maximum sun exposure. When sunlight strikes panels, it is absorbed by semiconductor material within each panel that knocks electrons loose. The electrons then flow along wires within the PV cells to create electricity.
