Hillabee Generating Station

Reducing Emissions with Clean Combined-Cycle Generation

Hillabee Generating Station uses innovative combined-cycle technology to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impact in Alabama. This three-unit, 753-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle natural gas-fueled power plant, owned and operated by Constellation, is located in Tallapoosa County near Alexander City, Alabama.

Hillabee went into full commercial operation in 2009. Fueled by clean-burning natural gas and combined-cycle technology, the plant recycles heat exhaust to create additional electricity with minimal waste and less water usage. Selective Catalytic Reduction technology further reduces nitrogen oxide emissions, supporting cleaner air for the region.

Resources

Constellation takes a safety-first approach in our culture and business practices. All Constellation generation facilities employ sophisticated emergency response plans designed to protect public health and safety. These plans are reviewed and approved by state governments and federal regulatory agencies and include coordination with local and municipal officials, as well as thousands of volunteers and first responders.

To protect the safety and health of our employees, contractors, customers, and communities, we've implemented a number of initiatives to promote safe behaviors both on and off the job. These include a safety behavior observation program and focused initiatives on high-risk areas. We also offer safety training integrated with leadership development programs for supervisors and managers, as well as new employee orientation. Plus, a safety peer group identifies successful pilot programs and new practices that can then be adopted across the entire organization.

Supporting the Local Economy

Hillabee Generating Station pays local real estate taxes totaling more than $1 million every year to support county and township government, area schools, libraries, park districts and other public services.
