Colorado Bend II Generating Station

Maximizing Efficiency with Advanced Combined-Cycle Technology

Colorado Bend II Generating Station is a state-of-the-art natural gas facility in Wharton, Texas that uses cutting-edge turbines to deliver reliable power while conserving water and reducing emissions. This 1,143-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas and steam turbine generation facility owned and operated by Constellation began commercial operations in June 2017 and includes two combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT).

Colorado Bend II's gas turbines are among the most advanced design of their kind, making them two of the cleanest, most efficient combined-cycle gas turbine units in the country. The new units use air for cooling instead of water, an important innovation in drought-prone Texas.

Safety First

Constellation takes a safety-first approach in our culture and business practices. All Constellation generation facilities employ sophisticated emergency response plans designed to protect public health and safety. These plans are reviewed and approved by state governments and federal regulatory agencies and include coordination with local and municipal officials, as well as thousands of volunteers and first responders.

To protect the safety and health of our employees, contractors, customers and communities, we've implemented a number of initiatives to promote safe behaviors both on and off the job. These include a safety behavior observation program and focused initiatives on high-risk areas. We offer safety training integrated with leadership development programs for supervisors and managers, as well as new employee orientation. Plus, a safety peer group identifies successful pilot programs and best practices that can then be adopted across the entire organization.

Supporting the Local Economy

Colorado Bend II Generating Station pays local real estate taxes totaling $7.5 million every year to support county and township government, area schools, libraries, park districts and other public services.
