Climate Commitment

Constellation’s Climate Goals

For decades, Constellation has been a leader in carbon-free energy generation and in offering sustainable solutions to our customers. We provide 10 percent of the carbon-free power in the United States and almost 90 percent of the energy we produce is carbon-free. We have already reduced our emissions footprint by 80 percent since 2005. However, as industry leaders, we are committed to pushing even further as we accelerate the transition to a carbon-free future.

These additional commitments will advance our goals and support a cleaner, healthier environment in our communities and around the world.

  • Clean Electricity Supply: We commit that our owned electricity generation will be 95 percent carbon free by 2030 and 100 percent carbon free by 2040*.
  • Operational Emissions Reduction Goal: We will reduce operations-driven emissions by 100 percent by 2040*. Any emissions that cannot be technologically reduced will be offset.
    • In the interim, we will reduce carbon emissions by 65 percent* by 2030 (through 100 percent 24/7 clean electric use at our owned facilities and use of 100 percent zero-emission vehicles in our vehicle fleet).
    • And we commit to reducing methane emissions 30 percent** by 2030, aligning Constellation with the Global Methane Pledge.
  • Supply Chain Engagement: We will partner with our key energy suppliers on their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate adaptation strategies.

*subject to policy support and technology advancements

**from a 2020 baseline

We commit to providing 100 percent of our commercial and industrial (C&I) customers with customer-specific information on their greenhouse gas (GHG) impact for facilities contracting for power and gas supply from Constellation, including mitigation opportunities that include 24/7 clean electric use by the end of 2022.

We commit to facilitate the future technologies and business models needed to drive the clean energy economy and improve community health and welfare. This will be achieved, in part, through venture investing and R&D. We will target 25 percent of these investments to minority- and women-led businesses. Constellation will require investment recipients to disclose their equitable employment and contracting practices, and will evaluate performance as a factor when considering investments.

Note: "Carbon-free” is defined as the percent of MWh that are produced using non-emitting technology in relation to the total MWh that we produce.
