Antelope Valley Solar Ranch One

One of the Largest Solar Facilities in the United States

Antelope Valley Solar Ranch One is one of the largest solar photovoltaic projects in the world, with approximately 3.8 million solar panels. The project is owned and operated by Constellation.

The project is a 242-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project in northern Los Angeles County, California. It generates enough clean, renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 75,000 average homes per year.

Constellation’s culture and business practices put safety first. All Constellation generation facilities employ sophisticated emergency response plans to protect public health and safety. Plans are reviewed and approved by state governments and federal regulatory agencies. Emergency planning includes coordination with local and municipal officials as well as thousands of volunteers and first responders.

To protect the safety and health of our employees, contractors, customers and communities, we've implemented a number of initiatives to promote safe behaviors both on and off the job.

Constellation has a safety behavior observation program and focused initiatives on areas of high risk. We offer safety training, which is integrated with leadership development programs for supervisors and managers, as well as new employee orientation. In addition, our safety peer group identifies successful pilot programs or new practices that can then be adopted by the entire organization.

AV Solar Ranch One demonstrates how Constellation's business and environmental strategy delivers value through clean energy investments. The project displaces approximately 140,000 metric tons of carbon emissions per year—the equivalent of taking approximately 30,000 cars off the road. It generates electricity with no water use, no air emissions, and no waste production.

AV Solar Ranch One delivers economic benefits to the local community and the state of California. These benefits include the generation of state and local tax revenues as well as full-time operations and maintenance jobs.

AV Solar Ranch One uses First Solar's FS Series 3 PV Module and deploys its tracking system on a portion of the facility. The technology increases electricity output by tilting the solar panels to track the daily path of the sun. The project also features innovative inverters with voltage regulation and monitoring technologies, which provide more stable and continuous power, increasing the project's efficiency and reliability.
