LUSBY, MD – Exelon Generation's Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant worker Brad Wright was one of 27 employee teams honored for exemplifying conservation and sustainable practices at the Exelon environmental summit earlier this month. In honor of Wright's dedication to environmental stewardship, Exelon Generation is giving $10,000 to the Maryland Artificial Reef Initiative.
Wright received the company's top achievement award, designed to recognize outstanding employee projects that support sustainability. In 2017, Wright led Calvert Cliffs' partnership with the Maryland Artificial Reef Initiative to install an artificial reef 11.3 miles north of Calvert Cliffs, in an area known as Plum Point.

"Exelon Generation is America's leading provider of zero-carbon nuclear energy and a proud environmental steward."
This reef enhances local oyster populations by providing a hard surface for them to attach to. In addition to providing hard substrate, the reef provides habitat, cover and food for native species and acts as a nursery, for rockfish, barnacles, mussels and the eastern oyster. The reef adds recreational value to the community by creating fishing habitat and ecosystem restoration, recreational diving and biodiversity, as well as increasing the carrying capacity of native aquatic organisms.
"Supporting habitat improvements and conservation of renewable natural resources is the best way to ensure our children have the opportunity to enjoy them in the future," said Wright, senior engineering analyst for Calvert Cliffs. "Those who enjoy a resource tend to care about it the most. Take a kid fishing; they will not forget the experience, you will not forget their smiles. It is a win-win."
Calvert Cliffs is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County and is Maryland's only nuclear energy facility. The station is home to two pressurized water reactors capable of generating 1,806 megawatts combined, enough to power more approximately 30 percent of all homes and businesses in the state of Maryland.
